Upcoming Sioux Empire Fair
Yes it is still two months away but excitement is growing as the Sioux Empire Fair for 2010 gets closer. This year the Children'sSafety Tent will not be a tent at all. A building which used to house Horticulture Exihibits has been converted to a multiuse facility through the generous donation of a local contractor (Golden Rule Construction), the Safety Village has been able to secure this building during the fair. Instead of a 20x40 tent, Children's Safety exhibits and activities will be inside of a 60x80 building. This continued growth of projects and partners will allow us to have more interactive activities for all those who attend.If you are coming out to the Sioux Empire Fair please stop by and visit us.

At a Sam's Club near you.
June is Sam's Club Safety Month. SO when they came to Sioux Empire Safety Village wondering what was possible, we scratched our heads and decided the the multi-lingual fire safety dvd's were a great option. SO in the Sioux Falls store Club members and Associates are being treated to fire safety in 10 different languages in the electronics department. The corresponding booklet are also available to members as they shop. Next year, we plan to have the injury prevention in the home avaialbe to Sam's.

My own thought on Distracted Driving Laws
After attending a Transportation Safety Conference in Pierre SD this week I found myself looking differently at the need for a ban on texting while driving. The following are a few thoughts that I came to. Please search out your own laws and see if just some concise informational messaging might help us with this relatively new issue. Maybe we should create billboards and posters which will support our law enforcement.

Immigrant and Refugee Training.
We are pleased to announce that through the Lutheran Social Services Office of Immigrants and Refugees, "Newcomer Orientation" is being held at the Sioux Empire Safety Village. During this two week class newcomers to the United States are being taught basic social and life skills such as how to get a job, how to pay a bill, rent an apartment, clean, cook and provide for the safety of their family. This is the second time in the last month that they have brought 20+ immigrants and interpreters out the WH Lyon Fairgrounds for these classes.
